Bank of England Governor Mark Carney will be the 2020 UN special envoy on climate action and climate finance.
The Canadian economist and banker will replace billionaire Michael Bloomberg taking on the UN role to push finance to act on climate change.
However, Mr. Carney’s successor at the British central bank has not been appointed yet. In fact, Brexit date is coming closer (31 January 2022), and Mr. Carnery is ready to extend his stay if required.
Mr. Carnery has contributed to increase awarness of the risks that climate change poses to finance since 2015. Since then, he has called for greater transparency in the financial sector urging the disclosure of the effects on global warming of oil and gas investments.
